“What was that all about?” Alvin asked once they were on the boat.

“I know those little kids have been around a lot,” Dave started.

“You mean every single second of this trip,” Alvin said.

“They’re sweet boys and they’re your fans,” Dave continued. “You’ve made

this the trip of their dreams. In the spirit of holiday fun, I’d like you to keep it up.”

“But Dave—” Alvin began.

Dave shook his head. “End of discussion.”

Alvin, Simon, and Theodore decided to each take a turn entertaining the little boys.

That afternoon, Simon found a big jar and filled it with jelly beans. He showed it to

the triplets and asked them to guess how many jelly beans were inside.

None of the boys got the right answer, but they were close.

Simon explained how they could use math to figure it out. He was impressed that

the little boys wanted to sit and listen to a math lesson!
